Can soft water help with Eczema?
The answer to this is most probably yes, and many thousands of people have had lasting relief after having a water softener fitted, we have many testimonials and some of them can be seen on our testimonials page.
Water the ultimate recycled product.
Its been about since time began (how ever long that is) probably several millions of years, trapped by the atmosphere it has constantly being used and reused throughout history, going through its cycle of evaporation and transpiration, gathering as clouds and then falling back to earth to be used again. Each time that water is evaporated, for example from the sea it is cleansed, dissolved solids and pollutants are left behind as the moisture rises the the sky to for rain clouds once again.
How often have you tasted salty rain water?
The process of evaporation leaves the salt behind to keep the Worlds oceans salty, when the (now purified) water once again falls as rain it is not laden with impurities and dissolved solids such as salt and is in a perfect state to dissolve any material that it comes into contact such as soil and rock for example and is being taken up in solution and then carried into the soil and rivers and eventually taking the minerals and salts with them to the sea. As the sea is nothing more than a fantastically large and salty lake it cannot run off anywhere unlike the rivers and streams, so the only way for water to escape is through evaporation! so the process continues over and over and over.........
So how does all of this effect Eczema and other skin conditions?
When rain water falls it has gone through the water cycle and has been purified, so if you could collect enough of it and only use that for washing clothes, showering and bathing with you may well be surprised how it reduces suffering. but for most people that would prove impossible so tap water has to be used, and that is a big problem for people in hard water areas because the very same beautifully soft rainwater has dissolved layers of chalk and lime and taken it up in suspension and it is the calcium and magnesium in the water that we know as scale, lime scale or hardness.
Does hard water cause Eczema?
Hard water is known to aggravate Eczema and other skin conditions but as far as we are aware there is no scientific or medical confirmation that it is actually a cause of initiating Eczema, however we do know that hard water scale deposits do exasperating the condition and can cause high levels of discomfort.
Just imagine million of tiny pieces of rock (Calcium) many times smaller than the particles on a sheet of sand paper – then visualise these particles on your skin, stuck in the pores along with residues of soap and detergent ‘scum’ rubbing and aggravating you 24 hours a day – imaging the drying effect of hard water as the natural oils are cut through and prevented from keeping your skin naturally moist as nature intended, and that is very bad for delicate sensitive skin that needs gentle loving care but that’s not all there is more - much more …..
Hard water scale and scum will not rinse from your clothing and bed linen properly so you have the added disadvantage of these residues being in constant contact with your delicate skin 24hours a day, rubbing, chafing and irritating, it’s a continual process.
Remove the twin culprits of hard water scale deposits and sticky curd like scum from your water and see the benefits of beautifully soft water in your own home, allowing you to cut down on aggravating detergents and cleaning chemicals by a much as 75% and see (and feel) the difference softened water can make.
So if you are living with the many problems that hard water cause you why not take advantage of the Better Water Solutions Free Hard Water Test and see just how hard your water supply is and how you can benefit from soft water.
But there is another problem with household water that can be greatly improved by a water softener. Recent independent research has shown that
“Free residual chlorine in bathing water reduces the water holding capacity of the stratum corneum in atopic skin”
These findings suggest that exposure to free residual chlorine can play a role in the development or exasperation of Atopic Dermatitis.
Chlorine is added to water by supply companies to prevent disease and is a very important addition to protect and disinfect the many thousands of miles of underground water pipes in the country, many of them being very old and leaking, but the high concentrations can cause other problems when if comes into contact with skin (delicate or otherwise) and also through being breathed in as vapour when bathing and showering.
Remove the three perils of Scale, Scum and Chlorine in water and your skin health and comfort can be improved greatly.
